          Lobbying at the General Assembly

In order to make progress as a profession, there must be progress both legislatively and with board regulations.  VSHP's political action comm-ittee (PAC) and VSHP's members have organized in the past to update the laws of the state, and each year there is additional work with the General Assembly.

          Recent legislative topics include:
          • Working to ensure hospital pharmacists retain representation on the Board of Pharmacy

          • Improvements to the checking regulations for robot-filled medications

          • Updates to expiration dates on repackaged medications

          • Protection of 'Therapeutic Interchange' programs

          • Decreases in paperwork requirements for delivery of controlled substances to nursing units

In order to get involved, consider which of the following might be of interest:
          • Contacting the current PAC committee chair and asking what current needs are
          • Writing to or calling representatives in regards to the news received from the VSHP PAC, above
          • Attending Lobby Day, held during the General Assembly (usually in February), in Richmond
          • Joining the VSHP PAC, or making a contribution
