Safety in Numbers: Weight-Based Dosing
Poster Contest
VSHP is sponsoring a poster contest to promote the importance of including
the weight of the patient on certain prescriptions, particularly those for
pediatrics and chemotherapy. Drug dosing errors are a significant portion
of the medication errors in this population of patients. With the inclusion
of the patient weight on the prescription, many errors could be avoided as
the pharmacist could calculate and verify the dosing as prescribed.
In this respect, VSHP would like to introduce the following slogan for this contest: “Safety in Numbers: Weight-Based Dosing.” Posters should be on an 8" x 11' paper and must include the slogan. Posters can be mailed to VSHP, Box 2344, Falls Church, VA 22042. Posters can be submitted by individuals or groups and must be postmaked by September 15, 2004. The posters will be judged by the VSHP Board of Directors prior to the Fall Seminar on September 30, and the winner will be announced during the annual awards banquet on Friday, October 1. The winning individual or team will receive $500.00. The winning poster will be reproduced and sent out across Virginia during National Pharmacy Week.
